Ergen, Son lobby shareholders for control of Sprint

SoftBank and DISH Network escalated their war of words Thursday in their battle for control of Sprint Nextel. SoftBank Chief Executive Masayoshi Son said that under the Japanese carrier's control Sprint would likely keep funding the Clearwire service, even if shareholders reject Sprint's takeover bid. Son also criticized DISH's $25.5 billion offer for Sprint as being "wishful" numbers and said SoftBank ownership would allow Sprint to continue offering unlimited data plans. DISH Chairman Charlie Ergen told investors that the satellite provider's wireless spectrum would fill in the gaps in Sprint's nationwide coverage, adding that he might sell DISH if he lost the bidding war for the carrier.
