La. public colleges are suffering under budget cuts, leaders say

Louisiana's higher-education leaders told state lawmakers this week that education quality is suffering after repeated cuts to university budgets. If lawmakers pass Gov. Bobby Jindal's new higher-education budget it will mean the state has cut school funding by nearly 85% since 2008. "The strength of a university depends on faculty and support staff. It's hard to stay competitive when you start losing quality faculty," Louisiana State University System President William Jenkins told lawmakers.
