Research IDs risk factors for scalds among toddlers

Boys are 34% more likely to suffer a scald injury than girls, and 1- to 2-year-olds have a 2.5 times greater risk than children under the age of 1 of being scalded, U.K. researchers said. Having several siblings and household deprivation were also risk factors for scald injuries. But toddlers born to mothers aged 30 to 40 had a 30% lower risk of having a scald than those with younger mothers, according to the study in the journal Burns.
