Supplements do little to slow macular degeneration progression

Antioxidant supplements taken with other vitamins do not add much protection against advancing macular degeneration in older adults, according to researchers from the National Eye Institute. The study in the Journal of the American Medical Association did show that among people who consumed the fewest green, leafy vegetables, the supplements of lutein and zeaxanthin led to a 26% lower risk of progressing to advanced macular degeneration.
