U.S. approves New York City's plan for $1.77B Sandy aid

New York City's plan for using the first $1.77 billion of aid to repair the damage caused by superstorm Sandy has been approved by the federal government. About $648 million of the money will be allocated to programs to rebuild damaged homes and make them more likely to survive future storms.
