Teacher shortages trigger Texas hiring wars

As several North Texas districts compete for bilingual, math, science, language and special-education instructors, some are offering up to $7,500 in hiring bonuses, and first-year salaries of more than $50,000. "What you're going to see two years down the road is a panic for math and science teachers," said University of North Texas associate professor Pamela Esprívalo-Harrell. "These candidates are going to be in a very good position to be choosy about where they work."
