Bill calls for minimum nurse-to-patient ratios

The National Nursing Shortage Reform and Patient Advocacy Act, introduced by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., would create minimum hospital nurse-to-patient ratios and provide whistle-blower protections to nurses who report safety issues. In an effort to relieve the shortage of nurses, the bill would also boost training and retention efforts.
