FASB tells companies how to rank guidelines

The Financial Accounting Standards Board has told U.S. public companies how to rank the importance of the many available guidelines when organizing financial reports. The board has been developing the hierarchy for generally accepted accounting principles since 2003. The previous decision tree for accounting standards was criticized as too complex and also because it was directed at auditors instead of reporting companies.
