BASF supports agricultural unit as others stall

With agriculture one of the few areas able to withstand the recession, Germany-based BASF is pouring its heart and soul into the segment, says a board member. The company's Agricultural Solutions was its only unit to show an increase in profit and a double-digit increase in sales in the first quarter. BASF says it plans to dedicate to the unit a sizable portion of its 2009 budget for research and development, as it did in 2008.
