New folic acid recommendations issued for women

U.S. health officials have issued a grade A recommendation that women planning or capable of becoming pregnant take a daily folic acid supplement of from 0.4 mg to 0.8 mg. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation came after a review of observational evidence showing folic acid reduces the risk of neural tube defects.
