Germany's Schaeuble says ECB purchases of ABS violate rules

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said that if the European Central Bank buys asset-backed securities in an effort to help troubled nations, it would be "covert state financing" and violate European rules, according to the magazine Spiegel. Most members on the ECB Governing Council reportedly favour buying ABS.
