India curbs gold imports to trim current-account deficit

Attempting to narrow India's worrying current-account deficit, the central bank slapped restrictions on banks importing gold. Gold has been a driving component of the nation's current-account gap, which grew to 6.7% of gross domestic product in the final months of 2012.
