Satellite providers gain subs in Q1 as cable drops

Satellite companies picked up 60,000 net video subscribers in the first quarter while cable companies shed 210,000, according to ISI Group. But DISH Network and DIRECTV are among providers that are focusing increasingly on holding on to their best customers -- the ones who spend the most on premium and on-demand services. Both satellite providers increased their average revenue per subscriber in the quarter, a key benchmark for pay-TV companies.
