Survey looks at U.S. youths' exposure to violence, abuse

Data from the 2011 National Survey of Children's Exposure to Violence involving about 4,500 youths aged 1 month to 17 years revealed that approximately 22% of them had witnessed violence in their family or their neighborhood in the past year. The report found 14% of children had repeatedly experienced maltreatment, including physical abuse, by a caregiver. The findings appear in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.
