U.K. extends smart meter rollout schedule

The United Kingdom's Secretary of Energy and Climate Change says the country's ambitious smart meter initiative, which seeks to install upward of 50 million devices in homes and businesses and was expected to be complete by 2019, will take a bit longer than expected. In a statement, Edward Davey said utilities will commence smart meter deployments in 2015 -- one year later than scheduled -- and will be finalized by 2020.
