Defense Department to improve care among staff via 2 HIT initiatives

The Department of Defense is backing IT solutions for disease prevention, clinical-decision support and other medical needs of military personnel. The Defense Health Information Management System will test the Medical Situational Awareness in the Theater portal, which features customized displays and analysis tools that can generate images that clinicians use to determine possible health dangers to troops. The DHIMS also has begun to deploy AHLTA Dental, an electronic records system that integrates medical and dental information.
