Necessities pay off for Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart reported flat first-quarter profit, which was in line with analysts' expectations. The retailer is among those that have benefited from appealing to budget-conscious customers. "Across the company, we are building our brand by reducing costs, sharpening our merchandising and updating our stores," Wal-Mart CEO and President Mike Duke said.
