Mastectomy patient chooses prosthesis over surgery

Florida mastectomy patient Andrea Adair opted for a breast prosthesis rather than reconstructive surgery so that she could return to fishing as soon as possible. Instead of a standard breast form, Adair opted for a custom breast prosthesis, which was made as a mirror image of her remaining breast and is self-adhesive. Her prosthetist, David Robinson of Westcoast Brace and Limb, said, "It's made of a safe platinum silicone. We put an additive to it that turns it into a gel so you can feel it and it feels very natural."
