Study finds link between cannabinoid receptors, PTSD

A study using PET imaging found patients with PTSD had more cannabinoid type 1 receptors in brain areas associated with anxiety and fear compared with those who did not have the condition. The study, published in Molecular Psychiatry, also found that patients with PTSD had lower levels of the neurotransmitter anandamide, which causes greater numbers of CB1 receptors. The findings may help improve diagnosis and treatment of people with the condition.
