Why dogs love to run

It appears dogs -- and potentially any mammals built to run, including cats -- experience something akin to the human "runner's high." A study compared levels of feel-good neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids in dogs, humans and ferrets after exertion and found that humans and dogs had elevated levels of the chemicals while ferrets did not.
