Wi-Fi hot spots could be revenue generators for cablers

Although top cablers are building out Wi-Fi hot spots mainly as a way to retain broadband customers, they see future moneymaking opportunities from the access points, Jeff Baumgartner writes. Cable Wi-Fi networks are poised to become virtual towers for mobile carriers whose 4G networks don't have sufficient supply to keep up with their subscribers' data usage, Baumgartner writes.
