Labels that can never be too thin or too smart

Norway-based Thin Film Electronics says stick-on smart labels that come with temperature-monitoring capabilities for sensitive products such as fresh produce and are as thin as hair will be a reality by the end of next year. Unlike silicon-based time/temperature recorders that cost up to $25 apiece, the labels would sell for 50 cents, the company says, making them practical for use on individual cases and cartons.
