Texas lawmakers approve use of driver's licenses for identity verification

A bill that would allow licensed health care providers to use the electronic strip on driver's licenses for check-ins and patient identity verification was recently approved by the Texas House and Senate. The proposal, which would take effect in September if signed by Gov. Rick Perry, has received support from state health care groups including the Texas Medical Association and the Texas e-Health Alliance.
