High doses of some statins may provide cancer protection

A new study found people who took high doses of statins that are lipophilic, or soluble in fats -- such as Lipitor, Zocor and Mevacor -- had a 25% lower risk of cancer than those who did not use the cholesterol-lowering medications. People taking a lower dose reduced their cancer risk by 11%.
