Study: Umbilical cord pH could predict health risks in newborns

British researchers found that a high acidity level in the umbilical cord blood of infants at birth can indicate an increased risk of cerebral palsy, brain damage and death in childhood. The findings suggest that monitoring umbilical cord pH could help pinpoint children with a higher risk for the conditions.
