Australian dollar in sustained decline

Signs of further slowing in China's economy, falling commodity prices and generally rising demand for the U.S. dollar sent the Australian dollar to an 11-month low Thursday, tipping just below 98 U.S. cents. The Australian currency has declined about 5% against its U.S. counterpart this month, second only to the 5.3% slide of the yen.
