Olympus to stop making low-end point-and-shoot cameras

Olympus is dropping its V series of compact cameras, unable to compete with consumers using the cameras in their smartphones and sharing those photos on Instagram and other services. The company expects its sales of digital cameras to fall to 2.7 million units this fiscal year, compared with 5.1 million units in the previous fiscal year. Olympus plans to focus on high-end cameras with interchangeable lenses.
