U.S. output, housing, jobs data point to slowdown

A measure of mid-Atlantic factory activity unexpectedly slumped to minus 5.2 this month, and a sour note was struck in the U.S. housing market, with home starts plunging 16.5% in April. In another indicator of weakness, initial applications for unemployment benefits spiked up last week.
