Corporate debt could increase under lease-accounting proposal

A proposed converged lease-accounting standard could increase debt held on companies' balance sheets by hundreds of billions of dollars. An industry association says the proposal would "not result in a significant improvement in the quality or reliability of financial information" and would "not faithfully depict the economics of equipment leases."
