South African exporters expect record year for apples and pears

Pear exports from South Africa to the U.K. are up about 40% so far this year, and apple shipments to continental Europe are up almost 50%, exporters say. "The market is very good. In South Africa, we are thankful for that and the rand is weak at the moment, which encourages exports. That helps with the high costs,” said Seven Seas Manager Willie Beets.
