Diabetes drug can ease side effects of AIDS medication

Some side effects of AIDS medications, such as the odd redistribution of body fat, can be reduced with GlaxoSmithKline's diabetes drug Avandia, researchers reported. A study by the Massachusetts team found daily doses of Avandia can help AIDS patients who tend to either lose body fat or experience a build-up of fat, sometimes dangerously around internal organs. Also, the Avandia patients had a 20% improvement in insulin sensitivity.
