IDC: Digital world on track to double every 18 months

According to IDC, 487 billion gigabytes of information were created worldwide in 2008, up 73% from 2007 and outstripping the firm's own estimates by 3%. All that data must be stored somewhere, increasing the importance of virtualization and data deduplication services, which help providers ensure that the same thing isn't stored multiple times.
