Farmers take direct approach to boost sales

The economic downturn has prompted many farmers to seek to bolster income by selling produce directly to consumers at local markets. Cutting out the middleman makes sound economic sense, farmers argue. "I think that this trend will continue to grow as consumer demand for fresh, local products increases," one says.
