EU watchdog group recommends treating location data as private

The European Union's Article 29 Working Party recommended on Monday that location data be considered private data and therefore receive greater protection under the Data Protection Directive. The European Commission is revising the directive, and if it takes the group's recommendation, greater restrictions could be placed on location data.
