Why radio needs to get "smart" about listeners, their phones

Radio needs to do a better job of tapping the connection smartphone users have with their devices, and marketing the availability of station applications and Web streams, according to a panel led by Fred Jacobs. With many listeners referring to the Pandora music service as radio, it's clear that "anything that provides audio entertainment while serving to usurp radio listening or radio's presence on devices and platforms may as well be 'radio,' " Jacobs said.
