Kmart reports second straight profitable quarter

Citing improved productivity and margins, along with reduced operational costs, Kmart reported earnings of $93 million, its second consecutive profitable quarter since emerging from bankruptcy protection. While same-store sales continued to fall, the retailer's president said, "Given our success, Kmart today is a financially strong company."
