Biotech stem cells could zero in on tumors, study says

U.S. scientists have genetically engineered bone marrow-derived stem cells to produce and directly deliver a cancer-killing protein called TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand to tumors. Studies on mice and cell cultures showed that the cells proved effective in targeting various types of cells without causing harm to healthy tissues.
