Following SCAI guidance reduces overnight stays

Following guidance in a 2009 SCAI-published consensus statement on how long patients should remain in the hospital after angioplasty cut overnight stays by more than half, according to a study presented at the SCAI 2013 Scientific Sessions. A review of discharge patterns at Scott and White Healthcare in Temple, Texas, revealed that the number of PCI patients who were kept for observation overnight declined from 81% to 39% after the facility adopted the guidelines.
