2011 hurricane season will be more active than average, NOAA says

The Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be above average this year, with as many as 18 named storms, including as many as 10 hurricanes, of which between three and six could hit Category 3 status or greater, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Other organizations are also predicting an above-average season, but the forecast from NOAA is the most active yet. Officials say citizens who live in areas that could be affected by these storms should be prepared for the possibility that a hurricane could make U.S. landfall this year.
