Are absorbable scaffolds the next big thing?

Bioabsorbable coronary stents are a topic of great interest among interventionalists, says SCAI President-elect Dr. Charles Chambers, but there are still questions to be answered about the new technology. "These are stents that will be the next generation that hopefully will have less [of the] issues ... we've always been concerned about with bare-metal and drug-eluting stents," Chambers said in an interview at the SCAI 2013 Scientific Sessions. The topic will resurface at the EuroPCR meeting in the late-breaking clinical trial presentations.
