Calif. program helps young students transition to kindergarten

A two-year transitional kindergarten program being operated in one California district this year will expand across the region and state. The state-mandated program places a greater emphasis on oral skills and developmental learning, said Alicia Jaime, a Cole Canyon Elementary School teacher. Courses aim to help students prepare for the curriculum they will face under the Common Core State Standards and to adjust to the school environment.
