CMS Innovation Awards focus on Medicare, special needs patients

CMS said its second round of federal Health Care Innovation Awards will offer $1 billion in grants for projects that can quickly reduce Medicare costs, improve care for patients with special needs and connect care delivery to prevention and population health. Among the projects from the first round were the Courage Center in Minnesota, which offers patients with traumatic brain injuries a medical home, and Welvie in Ohio, which helps Medicare patients make informed decisions about treatment and surgery.
