Michelle Connolly, an economics professor at Duke University who twice served as the Federal Communications Commission's chief economist, reportedly has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Republican FCC member Robert McDowell. Others said to be in contention are former Scripps Networks executive A.B. Cruz and a pair of top GOP telecom staffers, Ray Baum and Neil Fried.
