EU lawmakers work to protect uninsured depositors

The EU is moving toward greater protection for uninsured depositors over debt holders when failing banks face losses. A draft of amendments indicates that the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee is poised to support the initiative. Lawmakers are also moving to clarify that governments will have the right to nationalise banks or inject capital into them if financial stability is threatened.
