EU regulators consider structural reforms for banks

European regulators are examining options for breaking up major financial institutions to prevent banks from becoming "too big to fail". AFME has encouraged authorities to not require the separation of banking activities. "It is far from clear what ex ante separation of certain activities would add on top of existing regulatory proposals either in terms of protecting taxpayers or aiding financial stability," said Michael Lever, a managing director at AFME.
