Study: Early parenteral nutrition provides little patient benefit

Adult patients given parenteral nutrition within 24 hours of ICU admission did not have improved survival rates or shorter lengths of stay than those who received standard care, Australian researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Data showed that early parenteral nutrition did lead to less time on intensive ventilation.
