U.S. wants small businesses to handle more contracts

Newly passed legislation in the House would set aside a greater percentage of government spending for small businesses. The goal for small-business contracting would increase from 23% to 30%, while goals for women- and minority-owned businesses would rise to 8% each. A new 5% contracting goal for environmentally friendly businesses would also be created.
