Statin therapy raises risk for eye, liver, kidney ailments

U.K. researchers found that the risk for acute kidney failure, cataracts and liver dysfunction is greater in people who take statins. However, the finding should not discourage patients from continuing their statin treatments because the benefits of these cholesterol-lowering drugs to heart health far outweigh the possible risks, experts said.
