Scientist studies public health implications of urban livestock

Veterinary epidemiologist and food safety specialist Delia Grace is studying African cities where livestock are raised alongside people to better understand how such close proximity between animals and humans can affect public health and emerging diseases. Animal waste disposal and proper handling of meat are just some of the concerns raised by the practice, but Grace says communities reap important economic and nutritional benefits from raising their own food animals.
