Senate bill would alter sugarcane ethanol incentives in RFS

Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., have unveiled a bill that would close a loophole in the Renewable Fuel Standard that incentivizes the importing of sugarcane ethanol from Brazil. The bill would also harmonize ethanol supplies and demand, as well as mitigate the impact of the RFS on global land use and commodity prices, Corker and Manchin state. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen said, "Flexibility is a fundamental component of the Renewable Fuels Standard. The provision offered last week would begin to take away the EPA's ability to be flexible and make changes as issues arise."
